The project forms part of a wider regeneration scheme for the coastal area of the towns of Stabroek, Vreed en Hoop and Parika in Guyana, involving the construction of two ferry terminals, comprising facilities for passengers in transit, office space and a covered market, mooring facilities, and an administrative building, at a total cost of approximately $12,000,000
The proposed project for the new Stabroek Stelling and the pier, on the eastern bank of the Demerara River, aims to reconnect this part of the city with its river and to restore the role of the historic market area as a central urban hub, a significant landmark for the city and for the river itself; it is therefore essential that the new project creates a strong connection with it.
The void between the wharf building and the Stelling creates a pleasant public space that guides arriving passengers to discover the Stabroek Market, whilst providing a panoramic promenade along the river where one can relax by the water’s edge.
The concept for the Wharf and the Stelling draws inspiration from the architectural typology of the historic market and reinterprets it in a contemporary language, in which the symmetrical divisions of the existing pitched roof follow a sinuous pattern, as if tracing the flow of the river upon which they overlook.

The analysis of the project workflow was used as the final dissertation for the Master’s degree “ BIM management of collaborative processes for new and existing buildings” :
